The three big absentees at LoL World Championship 2018 are:
SK Telecom T1 – LCK (Korea)
After a season full of disappointing results for Faker and his teammates, SKT are one of the great absentees of these World. Their seventh place in the standings of the regular season of the LCK summer did not even give them a chance to play in the to the playoffs. The three time world champion lost 3-2 to Gen. G. Since their defeat in last year’s World Championship final, SK Telecom T1 seems to be in real trouble and have failed to recover from their failures.
This season, the downhill for SKT is not really a surprise. The team has not progressed and some of the decisions of the coaching staff, such as putting Faker as a substitute and the keeping the average performers. Blank and Bang in the first team without allowing young recruits to play, will remain misunderstood. This was the first time that the Korean team did not participate in the LCK playoff phase and are a no show at Worlds.
Team Solo Mid – LCS (North America)
Regarding the North American region, the big team missing for Words Season 8 is Team Solo Mid. This is the first time since 2011 that the team has not qualified for LoL World Championship. The spring and summer split of Season 8 were quite complicated for one of the most popular NA teams. However, they did manage to make a final push at the end of the season before being finally stopped by the Cloud 9.
The many reshuffles of the team at the beginning of season 8 have not borne fruit. After being eliminated in the semi-finals of the Summer Split NA by Cloud 9 , they were again defeated by C9, 3 to 0 in the final of the regional qualifier for LoL World Championship.
Misfits – LCS (Europe)
After displaying impressive results in the year 2017 and a qualification to the world last year during their first year at the LCS, what has happened to Misfits? The young European team had even managed the feat of beating SKT two times in the quarter-finals of LoL World Championship 2017. At the turn of this year, they have showed a promising start to the season. They remained unbeaten in their first 9 games before getting beaten in week 5 by Fnatic. After that defeat the team failed to find stability in the league.
The team recruited Jesiz to replace Mikyx in the position of support to bring a little more stability and efficiency within the team and try to save this season. Misfits then started their playoffs campaign by defeating G2 3-0 in the quarter-finals. However, they ran into Fnatic again in the semifinals where they lost 3-1 to the future winners of the split. They lose afterwards the match for the third place of the playoffs against Vitality, allowing their European opponents to secure their place at LoL World Championship.
