Nintendo Switch fans will be glad to know that one of the most popular video games of this era, Overwatch is finally coming to the console. Since the past few weeks, many leaks and reports have surfaced claiming that the game would soon make its way to the console. However, it has now been officially confirmed by Nintendo.
Blizzard has always made confused with their statements regarding Overwatch’s release on the Nintendo Switch. A few months ago, while talking about this topic, some of Overwatch’s developers claimed that bringing the game to the Switch will be really difficult. They even claimed that it will most likely not happen. Later on, in August, their statement changed when Blizzard’s senior producer claimed that porting the game to Switch is possible. At the end of August, someone accidentally listed an Overwatch-themed Switch case, which gave birth to a lot of new speculations and reports.
Switch Version Arrives in October
The Amazon listing made fans wonder whether the game is actually coming to the Switch or not. And now, to clear things up, Nintendo has announced that the game is indeed coming to the console. It will release in North America on October 15, 2019. This means that you just have to wait for a month to get your hands on the Switch version. At the moment, we currently don’t know whether it will be available as digital download or retail cartridge, or both. We don’t even know how much it will cost. However, we can expect these details to get revealed soon.
The world needs heroes.

The New Version Will Run at 30Fps
In addition to this, Blizzard also talked about some technical stuff. According to the company’s communication manager, Overwatch will run smoothly at 30fps with outputs of 900p docked and 720p undocked. The reason behind why the resolution and frame rate has been limited is to ensure a good and smooth experience on the console. On the PS4 and Xbox One, the game runs at 60 FPS with 1080p.
The same can be achieved on the PC if you have the right type of hardware. Although the game’s performance on the Switch will not be similar to these platforms, players will have an adapted experience. Without limiting the frame rate and resolution, it would’ve been nearly impossible for Blizzard to bring the game to the Nintendo Switch. Despite all this, players will be still able to enjoy the game on the Nintendo Switch. It will feature almost everything from the other versions.
Overwatch was released back in May 2016 for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The game was first revealed during BlizzCon 2014. Shortly after it was released, Overwatch was praised for the kind of gameplay it delivered. It has generated over $1 billion in revenue and is considered to be one of the greatest video games of all time. Once the game is released on the Switch, Blizzard can expect to see an increase in the revenue as well as the player count.
