After the results of the World Regional Qualifiers, T1’s coach Kim Jeong-soo resigns from the team. The team revealed the news and said that the decision was mutual. The organization respects Kim’s decision about resigning. The announcement came out on Twitter after T1 failed to qualify for the World Championship 2020.
A few days ago, Sports Seoul’s reports stated the resignation of T1’s coach very soon. However, the official statement didn’t come out yet. Before the official news could settle, the rumor for resignation came out. The organization T1 said that we cannot disclose any news about the resignation yet. Kim eventually followed the conversation and his reply showed a little frustration as the news got leaked. He said that he is currently in Busan, on a vacation by the team. He replied to Sports Seoul that this matter causes me a little distress as I have not discussed this with my team yet.
Now that the news is official, T1 is currently looking for a new coach before the new spring season of 2020 kicks off.
T1’s run with Kim
T1 reached high levels and won multiple titles under Kim’s coaching. The team won the LCK Spring Split 2020. T1 secured victory over Gen.G in an epic final of 3-0. However, the ultimate run of the team didn’t go as planned. T1 failed to qualify for the World Championship. T1 also faced a minor split in the summers. The split was carried out due to the poor performance in the playoffs of the first round of the tournament. The team lost to Afreeca Freecs in the very first round.
One last chance
T1 missed its one last chance as well. The loss in the regional finals shattered the dream of the team to reach the World Championship. Former rival, Gen.G secured victory over T1 to take the team out of the league. T1 has the world’s most championship trophies at the moment. The team holds three titles. Therefore, missing out on this year’s championship is a very big step backward for the team.
Kim had been an amazing coach throughout, before joining T1 in November last year. The overall history of the player is a hit after qualifying four consecutive times for the world title. He spent one successful year with the team DAMWON Gaming as the team managed to qualify for the world championship in its first LCK season. DAMWON eventually managed to reach the quarter-finals of the tournament. The team lost to G2 Esports that eventually made it to the finals of the series.
Kim also coached Invictus Gaming in 2018. Invictus became the first LPL team ever to win a championship in the world. Kim has been coaching in LPL, LCS, and LCK for years now. It will be highly interesting to know where he ends up. Multiple fans are making predictions but Kim hasn’t given any kind of news yet.
