Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, widely known as CS:GO, is one of the most popular esports games in the game. It was released around seven years ago, in August 2012. Since its release, the game has managed to attract millions of players from all over the world. Various organizers also host different tournaments for it in which teams compete for a big prize pool. And now, after breaking many records, it seems like CS:GO has again managed to achieve something big.

CS:GO is played by millions of players every month, and has a huge fan base. It even crossed Dota 2 back in October 2019 when it became the most played game on Steam in the said month. And now, it was recently reported that CS:GO has hit over 1 million concurrent players for the first time in history.

CS:GO Breaks Concurrent Players Record

On March 14, 2020, CS:GO had over one million concurrent players. This is something that has happened for the first time since the game’s release. Back in February, the number of players peaked at 916,996, but failed to hit the one million mark. Prior to this, the game’s concurrent players have always remained between 500k-950k players. But for the first time in history, the game has managed to break its own record by crossing one million concurrent players.

CS:GO

Another interesting thing right now is that CS:GO is also the most played game on Steam at the moment. It has left every game behind it and has proved that it has what it takes to become the best esports game in the world. Dota 2 is currently at the second most played game on steam, and it has peaked around 694,829 players today. This is 312,233 players less than what CS:GO has today.

CS:GO first used to be a paid game and sold millions of copies. Later in December 2018, Valve made the game free-to-play and claimed that they are going to focus generating revenue from the in-game store. This is one of the reasons why the game’s player base has increased and in just one year, it has managed to cross its highest concurrent players record.

Another reason behind the increase in players is the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak. A lot of countries have ordered their citizens to stay home so that they don’t catch the virus. This is why many people are staying home, and gamers are currently making the most out of the video games they have. In Italy, one of the ISP’s reported that there is an increase of more than 70% of Internet traffic over their landline network.

At the moment, fans are eagerly waiting to see for how long will CS:GO managed to remain the most played game on Steam. People are going to remain inside their house for the coming weeks, and we might even get to see more players soon. In any case, lets just hope that the virus goes away soon so that people can get back to their normal routines.
